Honey Grove, Texas — Honey Grove – Honey Grove Library & Learning Center is one of more than 160 public libraries nationwide that have received funding from the Public Library Association (PLA) to conduct digital literacy workshops in using Digitallearn.org Resources. The PLA Digital Literacy Workshop Incentivesupported by AT&T, helps libraries of all sizes deliver digital literacy training in their communities and bridge the digital divide.
Honey Grove Library & Learning Center will be offering digital literacy workshops on Wednesdays from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. from September 21 through October 12. These workshops will cover useful topics such as basic computer usage, email basics, and tablet basics. Additionally, the library’s digital literacy lab will be open on Saturdays from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Staff will be available to answer questions and help with technical issues.
“The mission of libraries has always been to provide equitable access to information, literacy, learning and culture. In the era of COVID-19, this mission has only become vital because Libraries have played a vital role in keeping communities connected and online,” said APL President Maria McCauley. “A PLA Survey 2020 found that about 88% of public libraries offer some form of digital literacy support, but only 42% offer formal courses. Staffing and funding were the main barriers to delivering technology training. AT&T’s investment with PLA and public libraries nationwide will boost access to digital literacy skills for the most vulnerable in our communities. »
“The Honey Grove Library and Learning Center is honored to receive this support, and we look forward to bringing these workshops to our community. We want to help everyone in our community develop their skills to access information and digital services,” said Mitzi Sherwood. , director of the library. “These workshops are designed so that learners can select topics that interest them and learn at their own pace, with staff providing guidance and individualized instruction.”
