The first institution of its kind in the region, the school was founded to train a new generation of interdisciplinary artists and creative media professionals, and to develop new ideas and technologies for the creative industries in Hong Kong, mainland China. and abroad. Today, more than two decades later, he continues to espouse and advance these goals as the undisputed leader in his field.

Students are trained in disciplines spanning computer science, media art and design, creative writing, cultural studies, and digital technology. The school bridges art and science and integrates traditional and new media. It values ​​applied creativity, cultural awareness and critical thinking as much as business acumen and entrepreneurial success.

Its internationally recruited faculty are among the most eminent artists and scholars in the field, and they have brought a global perspective and forged many institutional partnerships for the School. Graduates have consistently demonstrated high employability, with over 90% now working as freelance and professional artists in the creative industries, film, television, advertising, publishing, games , media production and post-production. Many have won prestigious international and local awards for creative and technical innovation.

The school offers teaching loads that match the requirements of a research university, start-up research grants, and numerous professional development opportunities.

We are looking for scholars/artists focused on interactive, immersive and/or playable art and media from a creative and production-oriented perspective.

Functions:

The appointee should

  1. teach hands-on core production courses in the School of Creative Media’s undergraduate programs, as well as electives in their specialty area and some postgraduate (MFA and/or MA) courses, and mentor postgraduate research students;
  2. play an active role in curriculum development, management and design;
  3. maintain an active profile of research and practice with a focus on the contemporary and future development and applications of creative media;
  4. provide a service to school and university governance; and
  5. contribute to professional engagement, networking and outreach activities that enhance the academic and professional life of the School.

Terms:

A doctorate in creative media or related disciplines and a research and publication grant file. Given the School’s emphasis on technological literacy, we welcome applicants whose work demonstrates a critical awareness and technical understanding of hardware and software technologies that underpin current and future developments in the field.

A successful candidate would also possess substantial expertise and an internationally recognized track record in creative work and/or production (e.g. exhibitions and/or awards), a coherent vision for the development of their field in relation to society and the industry, as well as an in-depth knowledge of the history, theory and practice of digital and interactive art and media.

Candidates to be considered for the rank of associate professor and above must also have:

  • A track record demonstrating their ability to assume a leadership role in one of the School’s main areas of learning and research;
  • A university teaching record with experience in curriculum development, interdisciplinary programs and postgraduate supervision; and
  • Track record of successful collaboration with industry.

Salary and conditions of service

Total compensation will be determined by market competitiveness and individual performance. Excellent benefits include gratuities, time off, medical and dental plans, and relocation assistance (if applicable). The first appointment will be on a fixed-term contract.
