Initiated hosted the first SPARK: Innovation in Business breakfast focused on digital media and the technology sector. Future SPARK events will look at innovation in different sectors such as real estate and manufacturing.

The breakfast took place at HOST, a technology-focused innovation center in the heart of MediaCity. Operated by the IN4.0 group, HOST helps companies in the digital sector to develop and acquire new skills.

SPARK breakfast coverage will appear in the December issue of Initiated and an on-demand stream of the event is available to watch here.

IN4.0 Founder and CEO Mo Isap kicked off the event with an inspirational speech. Isap explained how digital skills and the activation of local talent are fundamental for growth and innovation in the sector: “We must activate young people and the disadvantaged in our communities to ensure that everyone has a equitable access to a technological future.”

This was followed by the first panel of the morning, where the audience heard from Rachel Boyd, Director of Crocodile Media, Marcus Hadfield, Chief Strategy Officer at Apadmi and Michael Carr, Managing Director of Crowd Network. Panelists discussed innovation in apps, podcasts and immersive technology.

Then there was an interim interview with Jenny Mooney, North West Technical Officer for the Department of International Trade. Mooney explained how trade missions can be a great platform for technology and media companies interested in exporting to new territories.

The second panel of the morning (pictured above) featured Badger & Combes managing director Colin McKevitt, Doodledo founder James Torry, Ladbible editor Simon Binns and Indiespring account manager Arran Kirkup. A theme of that discussion was how companies can innovate on new communication channels, with Binns advising brands to think about “telling the same story in a different way on each platform.”

SPARK breakfast coverage will appear in the December issue of Insider and an on-demand stream of the event is available to watch here.
