St Mary’s School, Cambridge has announced the appointment of Alex Brough, who takes on the role of Director of Digital Learning at the school.
Already in office, Mr. Brough has an abundance of valuable experience gained in the education sector. He joins the St Mary’s team at Quinton House School, part of the Cognita Group, where he was Director of Digital Learning and Head of IT – working in the school and group for eight years.
At St Mary’s, Mr Brough will focus on developing the use of technology to underpin and support the school‘s current exceptional teaching and learning. This will include examining the impact of software in different teaching subjects and practices, as well as the technology that lies behind the scenes to seamlessly support student learning..
After earning an undergraduate degree in Automotive and Motorsport Engineering from the University of Hertfordshire, Mr Brough went on to complete his PGCE at the University of Buckingham, before entering the world of education. Starting his career in 2013 as a Learning Support Assistant at Quinton House, Mr Brough then progressed to Physics Manager before becoming IT Manager. Mr Brough has experience as a year leader and in implementing pastoral support platforms, piloting many before they are launched in clusters of schools. He then became head of digital learning, which saw him lead other trials and develop platforms, including both in classroom apps and school management systems. Mr. Brough’s passion is working with schools on their digital strategy, management information systems and curriculum. It also continues to consult with the private sector on digital frameworks and practice under pre-inspection frameworks.
Commenting on his appointment, Mr Brough said:
“St Mary’s is a unique educational institution. I have worked in a group of over 60 schools and can say, without a doubt, that the respect, kindness and core ethic of the St Mary’s community is what sets it apart. I strongly believe that technology should always enhance and support learning, not replace it. I am truly delighted with my journey at St Mary’s and joining such a great team of professionals.
Charlotte Avery, Principal of St Mary’s School, said:
“We are delighted to appoint Alex to lead our digital learning across the school. Digital technologies have proven vital during the pandemic and our arrangements have enabled us to provide remote learning to our students throughout. Under the Alex’s leadership, this branch of our work will continue to thrive – giving our students the skills and experiences they need to succeed beyond St Mary’s, at university and in the workplace.
