Self-paced polling is typically used to administer quizzes and exams in a classroom setting. Your students take a quiz on paper while using the TurningPoint app on their mobile devices to record their answers. Quizzes are scored automatically, excluding short-answer or essay questions. Below is the procedure for administering a quiz or exam using self-paced polling.

Launch and connect to Turning desktop app. Click on Enable below Mobile responsesthen Start session to generate a session ID.

Make sure the course and question list are selected. If you don’t already have a question list, please see Creating a Question List in Turning. Click on Start now below Survey at your own pace to start.

The Survey at your own pace window will open. Click on Accept Login in the upper left corner to continue.

Another dialog will open where you can adjust quiz settings and enter a custom message that will display to students after they complete the quiz. The custom message is optional and the default text is “Test received”. Click on OKAY Continue. (Note: for Participant Loginuse the default option: Stopped.)

You will be taken back to the polling window at your own pace. Click on Start the survey to start the quiz.

Distribute the paper quiz to the students to start. In the polling window under the session ID, you can see how many students logged into the session and completed the exam. Under the Status column, a green triangle indicates the exam is in progress and a checkmark in a green circle indicates the student has submitted the quiz. Students will receive the “test completed message” upon completion.

Live results allows you to see student progress as they take the exam. Do not project this screen!

When the time is up, click Stop polling to complete the exam. Click the Save button to save the results to your USB or network drive, or upload them to Nevada Box.
