The Digital Learning Collaborative Announces Annual Awards Program |

ATLANTE, February 9, 2022 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ — The Digital Learning Collaborative (DLC) is thrilled to announce its inaugural awards program recognizing some of the incredible leaders, schools and organizations that improve student opportunities and outcomes.

According to Allison Powell, DLC COO, “We were thrilled with many incredible nominations from innovative e-learning leaders and organizations across the country.” The winners will be recognized at the closing ceremony of the Annual Digital Learning Conference (DLAC), the Wednesday February 9in Atlanta and online.

The winners are:

Individual Excellence in Digital Learning Award – Dr. Cory Kanth

dr. Cory Kanth is a Statewide Public Education Online Program Specialist at the Utah State Bureau of Education. In his role, Cory successfully implemented the vision for the statewide online education program, delivering publicly funded online courses to thousands of students across Utahand provide an example of success in course selection programs and policies.

DLC Research Impact Award – Thomas Arnett

Tom Arnet brings extensive educational experience to his role as Principal Investigator at the Clayton Christensen Institute, including serving as a middle school math teacher and a school district and charter school board member. Over the past year in particular, he has been instrumental in researching the promises and dangers of pandemic-induced remote learning, and how schools can build on this experience to create sustainable, long-term online and hybrid learning options for students.

2022 DLC Unsung Super Star Award (Individual) – Neida Ortiz

With over 10 years of experience in the education industry, Neida Ortiz is a Quality Assurance Specialist in the Curriculum Development Department of FlexPoint Education Cloud and Florida Virtual School (FLVS). She has worked to light a path related to online course development and accessibility awareness. She found that students who used screen readers in world language classes did not have the most accurate learning experience because the content was not coded to recognize a change in the pronunciation of the language. She led efforts to design and document a process to correct this problem and make online classes much more effective for students with visual impairments.

Unsung Super Star Award (School/District) – Dr. Marty Lexmond

The West Allis-West Milwaukee School District serves a beautifully diverse population that includes sixty-five percent of students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. very promising results. They have shifted their focus from seeing their learners as students with deficits that need to be corrected, to students who bring talents and strengths to the table that deserve inspiration. They have demonstrated success through a variety of online project-based learning assignments that allow students to track their passion projects as well as mental health supports for students and a community focus that has helped them grow academically and personally. The district is headed by Dr. Marty Lexmond who often says, “Our schools need to stop worrying about what’s wrong and need to worry about what’s possible for the students and families we serve.

DLAC Spirit Award – Ray Rose

Ray Rose is truly a pioneer in e-learning, having been instrumental in developing one of the first multi-state e-learning programs, Virtual High School, in the 1990s. Ray saw the promise early on. of e-learning, and in the years since, he has driven the entire field to strive to realize the promise of e-learning for all students, including and above all by focusing on issues of access and accessibility.
